About my film diary

Recently, I’ve seen so many people on Threads talking about the re-release of the film🎬花束みたいな恋をした, which instantly reminded me of the time I went to see it in theaters back in March. That day was super fun—it turned out to be a Friday movie special at the Tainan Shin Kong Mitsukoshi theater, and the ticket only cost 88 NTD (such a crazy deal I almost cried😭😭😭).

Since this memory suddenly came back to me, I decided to change things up for this week’s journal entry. I’m going to introduce five movies I really love!

‘25 5 5 🎬TAKE1: Titanic
Titanic is hands-down my favorite movie of all time. Some of my friends have mentioned that they don’t think it’s thatexciting, but to me, everything about it—from the setting to the costumes to the story—is just so captivating…🚢 Also, I’m a sucker for anything classic, so Titanic is totally my vibe. I’m pretty sure everyone already knows the basic plot, but I especially love how the film portrays a tragic event with such cinematic beauty, while also reflecting the reality of the real-life Titanic disaster.

‘25 5 6 🎬TAKE2: We Made a Beautiful Bouquet (花束みたいな恋をした)
Japanese romance films have recently become one of my favorite genres (I didn’t watch many before, but I’ve been trying some lately!). I love how
We Made a Beautiful Bouquet tells the story of a couple in such a simple, down-to-earth way. The pacing of Japanese romance movies is always slow, and there’s rarely any dramatic twists, but the simplicity of the setting makes it so easy to relate to real life.

🗣️I actually talked about this movie with my best friend Trinity, and she said it wasn’t really her type. So it really depends on the person—but if you’re into romantic movies, this one’s a great pick!

‘25 5 7 🎬TAKE3: 余命十年
This movie is often discussed alongside
We Made a Beautiful Bouquet because they have a really similar vibe—they’re both romantic dramas. But The Last 10 Years feels a bit less “real” compared to Bouquet. In the story, the main character is a woman diagnosed with a rare disease and given only ten years to live. The film follows her journey of love and the years she shares with someone she deeply loves. It’s also a slow-paced movie, and I think that’s what gives it its emotional depth.

‘25 5 8 🎬TAKE4: Call Me By Your Name
I once left a comment under a film critic Hannah’s blog post about
Call Me By Your Name, but she said she didn’t really get the film. That’s when I realized I must really love slow-paced movies (they’re usually the kind that people either love or just can’t understand at all 😵‍💫). But honestly, I love the way this movie is filmed and the beautiful settings. It feels more like a piece of art than just a film.
The ending, where the two characters can’t be together in the end, is portrayed in such a subtle and romantic way. There’s no dramatic breakdown, but you can still fully feel the protagonist’s sorrow.

‘25 5 9 🎬TAKE5: Back to the Future I
This is one of my all-time favorite classics! (
Back to the Future has three parts, but if I had to choose a favorite, it’d be the first one!) The story is about a teenager who teams up with a quirky scientist who invents a time machine, and they travel back in time to fix the past. Since it was released in 1985, the special effects aren’t super advanced, so a lot of the visuals now look kinda adorable…😭 (That kind of unintentionally funny vibe you get from old movies with basic effects)
If you’re into classic films, this one is definitely worth a try. The plot is exciting and really makes you think to keep up with everything that’s going on.

That’s a little movie list from me!

Except for
Titanic, all of these are films I didn’t fully appreciate until I watched them again after entering college. Maybe people’s tastes really do change over time… I don’t know, but I’ve found myself falling more and more in love with slow-paced movies lately. (Feels like I’m getting older👵🏻)

  1. I really don’t know much about Japanese movies, I’ve only watched things like Love Letter (which I think is a wonderful film, and Takashi Kashiwabara was so handsome😮‍💨😮‍💨). As for Call Me By Your Name, I totally agree with you that it’s really romantic and beautiful, both the characters and the northern Italy views. But the parts I couldn’t really relate to are actually some of the plots. I remember Timothée’s character had an intimate relationship with a girl but ditched her right after (if I’m remembering correctly). And of course the peach scene. (I really don’t want to describe what happened there) But it’s a beautiful movie without a doubt!

  2. I really just couldn’t stand the super slow pace of the above two Japanese movies you mentioned ==~ but I did watch some really nice Japanese films before by the way. BUT I LOVE THE ACTORS IN BOTH餘命十年、花束般的戀愛 OMG ESPECIALLY 菅田將暉 I love him soooo much, did I ever tell you? But he actually wasn’t that attractive(a lot) after he got married. But I love most of his films though. The four main characters in these two films are all good looking and are good at acting(talking some pee words) I have a friend, she loves titanic very much, but I know all she meant was the part we shouldn’t be watching== Is that part also your favorite?

  3. I've only watched Call Me By Your Name once before, but the story is so touching that I still remember some scenes. It is really a beautiful work, and I actually wanted to watch it again but I can't find time :( Your recommendations look good! I would like to save your list and watch them later. Your shares are always worth me giving a try, you really have a good taste!
